Photo Friday - The Beach

I took this two years ago at Perdido Key, about a year after Hurricane Ivan devastated the Gulf Coast. The storm really destroyed much of the dune structure. But, the The many of the sea oats survived and are helping to rebuild the dunes naturally. The day I shot this there was a nice gently onshore breeze and the sea oats were swaying gently in a breeze.

Dinghies in a Row

All along the waterfront in Newport you see boats, sail and power, hanging on their moorings. The dinghies are scattered about wherever there's easy access to the water. The owners are pretty trustwothy, as most are not secured in any way.
For this shot the sun was getting pretty low on the horizon and approaching the "Golden Hour" giving these white dinghies soft warm tone.

Newport Sunset

There are a number of spots along the waterfront in Newport where you can view some awesome sunsets. I wish I had been able to spend more time in Newport exploring different locations from which to shoot. Unfortunately, my business trip got in the way. I had to spend most of my time doing that four letter word "WORK." Maybe next year?

Newport Bridge

Last week Susan and I had the opportunity to visit Newport, RI, on Aquidnick Island. It was our home for almost eight years. I was stationed there (Navy) from 1978 - 1986. We actually lived in Middletown RI, which is right next door to Newport. I loved taking pictures of the Newport Bridge at different times of day. Depending on the light and time of day the bridge takes on a different look. I was hoping for a good sunset shot but I couldn't get the angle I wanted so I took what I could get.
