Photo Friday - Pet

Although she's not my "pet," my wife and I get to share Lanie every once in awhile. She actually belongs to our oldest daughter who can't seem to leave home without her when she comes to visit. We really don't mind, since we lost our "Mikey" some time ago, it's nice to have her around. Part lab and part something else, she's got a great disposition and is wonderful around the grandkids.

Downtown Marina at Night

I've been doing some experimenting with some time exposures lately. Tonight there was a full moon with a pretty clear sky. I drove around for awhile looking for some opportunities. When I drove down lower Palafox I could see how still the water was in the marina and how the reflections of the condos and boats created mirror images of each other. I shot this one at F8, with an 11 second exposure, and only some minor adjustment in Photoshop Elements.

Photo Friday - Costume

It's that time of year again - Mardi Gras. This photo was taken last year (2008). The festivities really begin next month. Everyone associates New Orleans with Mardi Gras. Actually, it originated farter east in Mobil Alabama. They begin celebrating Mardi Gras in November, ending on Ash Wednesday. Pensacola does it up pretty big. From Destin FL to Gulf Shores AL various "Crewes" host parades in downtown Pensacola showering parade goers with tons of beads and moon pies. The draw isn't anywhere close to the numbers of people who travel to New Orleans. But, that's one of the nice things about Mardi Gras on the Panhandle.
